The Fish

Barramundi

Barramundi is Australia's premier sports fish and is located in the northern half of Australia. With its fighting ability and spectacular leaping displays it is every fisherman’s dream to catch a big wild Barra.  The Hinchinbrook region is famous for its elaborate estuary system of over three hundred creeks and tributaries.  This region is Australia's best kept secret for big Barra and monster Mud Crabs.  These estuary’s also hold King Salmon, Blue Salmon, Mangrove Jack, Cod and Golden Snapper.  There are also a couple of deep holes to anchor at night and fish for the mighty Black Jew fish which grow in excess of 80-90 pound.

Utopia Charters offers packages to the Hinchinbrook region using Utopia as a mother ship whilst in conjunction with local fishing guides using custom built sport fishers to fish these
creeks for Barra, Mangrove Jack, and anything else that wants' to play.

Mud Crabs are common in these waters so expect Muddies on the menu and plenty to take
home with your Barra fillets.

If you would like to experience the awesome estuary fishing in the Hinchinbrook region, and enjoy the natural beauty from the comfort of a mother ship with experienced Barra guides and fully customized vessels, Utopia charters has packages to suit any sports fisherman’s needs.

Anglers can travel either from Magnetic Island or Townsville and experience the blue water fishing as we travel the 50 nautical miles through local islands to the bottom of the channel or get picked up at Dungeness located at the bottom entrance to the channel. The channel itself is in flat, calm waters so you don’t have to worry about sea sickness.
